The fear was legitimate, and the MRI confirmed it. Kyler Murray’s season is over. Injured in the knee alone at the start of the game against the Patriots on Monday evening, the diagnosis is the one that was expected: rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, as revealed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
For his fourth season as a Cardinals starter, Murray finished with three wins and eight losses in eleven starts, and a statistical line far from his standards, with 66.4% of his passes for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, to which we must add 418 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
It is now Colt McCoy who will be the holder for an end of the season without a goal, the Cardinals being very far in the race for the playoffs. The future in Arizona therefore seems more cloudy than ever, between a franchise quarterback who will have to return from a very serious injury, and a coach who has been very contested for several seasons.
