Recently it became known that Marcus Stroman had agreed with the New York Yankees on the terms of a contract for at least two years.
Obviously, this is a controversial signing for several reasons.
The first reason? Adding Alex Verdugo and Marcus Stroman in the same off-season means that leadership of the team will have to be strong. After all, guys have their character.
Another reason? He's not Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery.
It's not Stroman's fault, but signing the former Blue Jays signal that the Yankees won't sign a big name on the big-money market.
Will Stroman be the club’s #2? Surely not.
This means that the club will need Carlos Rodon to be healthy. If he is, he is qualified to support Gerrit Cole admirably.
Currently, he and Nestor Cortes are in Tampa Bay and things are going pretty well for them.
And finally, the fact that Brian Cashman did not feel, in 2019, that Stroman could make a difference in a rotation was talked about. Has Cashman changed his tune?
Obviously, yes.
Stroman, at a press conference to introduce him to the New York media, claimed that he had spoken with Cashman about the situation and that everything was correct.
The StroShow claims that the GM did not need to bring the situation back and that water had flowed under the bridge, but Cashman was keen to do so. They laughed about it.
Note that Stroman, who is happy to see that the Yankees have also added Juan Soto, said he is fully healthy.
He also says that New York will bring out the best in him and he says he is a bit misunderstood, sometimes. We will see in time if he will dominate, but oh well.
