In recent years, the famous transactions of the month of August no longer exist. We can therefore no longer exchange players after the first early August deadline.
But that, the Angels do not care.
The club, which was (surprisingly to many) in a position to buy in view of the deadline, has already dropped the playoff case.
For what? Because the formation loses and because in one evening, Shohei Ohtani stopped throwing and Mike Trout got injured again.
And how does that translate?
This translates into seeing the Angels submit five regular players from their formation to waivers: Lucas Giolito, Matt Moore, Reynaldo López, Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk.
I will admit that by reading this, I took the leap as I have rarely taken the leap in connection with a new sportswoman. I laughed, in spite of myself, in a demonic way.
It was the festival of ask that at home, actually. But afterwards, we analyze everything and we clearly see that it is to save money.
After all, these are all players who landed in Anaheim in the last few months and are all eligible for free agency in a few months.
These are guys who wouldn’t have returned and who, no matter how much they cost, can’t do anything to help the club.
Giolito and Lopez notably cost significant hopes… on the mound…
The goal of the Angels? Save money by the end of the season. It’s a unique way of doing things to try to avoid paying the luxury tax and it must not make many leaders happy.
That said, it adds free (except for salary) players to the market. Some teams that have holes could claim players on waivers.
The Blue Jays need a right-handed stick, precisely…
By doing so before September 1, we can see that the guys who change address will be able to play in the playoffs with a new team.
That said, I wonder above all what this means for Shohei Ohtani. Was he taken aback? Does that discourage him about a future in Anaheim?
Does this mean that even as a hitter, he will soon end his season to undergo major elbow surgery? I can’t wait to see, but I’m a little scared.
Right now, the Angels are 11.5 games out of the playoffs.
- George Springer is back for good as leadoff batter.
- Édouard Julien learned English in Alabama… and it shows.
