Victory against the Guardians: Did Aaron Boone save his job?

For the first time since 2019, the Yankees find themselves in the MLB semi-finals. They will participate in the championship series in the American against the Houston Astros, as in 2019.

And like in 2017.

Either way, the Astros won the series before heading to the World Series. However, we learned, with hindsight, that the Astros had cheated to achieve their ends.

I also believe that this will motivate the Yankees to win the series to go to the World Series, but this is not the opinion of all my colleagues at Passion MLB.

All that to say that the Yankees managed to get the Guardians out of Cleveland. Whether thanks to the rain or the performance of the players as such, the fact remains that the Yankees have won two games in a row while facing elimination.

And I wonder how far that saved Aaron Boone’s job.

I have a feeling that due to the many injuries in the bullpen, he wouldn’t have lost his job anyway and that Brian Cashman would have protected him.

But there, with a victory against Cleveland and a first appearance in the championship series in three years, it helps his cause even more.

I don’t see him, unless there is a disaster, losing his job.

It will be remembered that last year, when his contract expired, Boone saw his GM take a long time to decide if he was going to bring him back to town. He eventually did, but with a revamped coaching staff.

The Yankees had a big season, but the lows were deep. Out of necessity, Yankees fans wanted Boone’s head – and, increasingly, that of Cashman.

Fan posts asking for a change of manager were numerous, especially in the last few days. And often, it was Don Mattingly’s name that came up in discussions.

I don’t know how good it is to think of Mattingly as manager of the Yankees since his status with the club would possibly make him harder to settle.

At the same time, he left the Dodgers and Marlins “amicably,” which makes him squishy when things are done the right way.

Anyway. Right now, everything points to Boone keeping his job after leading his team (at least) to the semi-finals.

Yankees fans, is that your business?

  • He would have to pick up there.
  • Astros 26-man roster: Seth Martinez replaces Jake Meyers.
  • Yankees 26-man roster: Frankie Montas, Greg Weissert and Oswald Peraza replace Marwin Gonzalez, Aaron Hicks and Lucas Luetge.
  • A great record for Justin Verlander.
