The Blue Jays de Toronto and the Seattle Mariners experienced a hectic match yesterday afternoon (Saturday). Not only did the defeat of the Blue Jays by the 8-4 brand lasted twelve rounds, but at the start of the match, the benches of the two teams emptied after Jose Berrios and Cal Raleigh had an altercation.
So what exactly pushed Berrios to challenge Raleigh in this way? The Blue Jays launcher suspected the Mariners' striker from transmitting information on the ground to his teammates.
If this is indeed what happened, it is not exactly how Raleigh was able to intercept information on the throws of Berrios or how he was able to relay it to his teammates. The latter launched six rounds on the mound, granting three deserved points, including ironically, a double to Raleigh in fifth round.
But what is clear is that Berrios was not happy.
I do not react very often this way. I am a calm and relaxed guy. But when some people try to fight with us in the field this way, I don't respect that. I don't like it.
Berrios should rather look in the mirror, because there is nothing illegal in what Raleigh did.
Besides, manager John Schneider does not make a story of it.
The teams do that. We understand. In the heat of the action, you are a little annoyed. I didn't think the benches needed to be emptied. Nothing major happened. But I like when our guys defend themselves.
It will be interesting to see if there will be other events related to this episode between these two teams during the final match of the series this afternoon (Sunday).
