NHL: Cale Makar injured again, will be absent against the Oilers

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar will not be in uniform to face the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday with an upper body injury.

Makar briefly left Saturday’s game against the St Louis Blues after being hit in the head in a collision with Alexei Toropchenko, but returned to action afterwards.

He’s had concussions before this season, missing four games after being hit in the head again against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 7. He was just making his return to the game yesterday.

Makar missed a total of eight games, but the Avalanche managed to collect at least one point in seven of them in his absence.

In 47 games this season, the Norris Trophy winner has 13 goals and 45 points. He has 61 goals and 225 points in 224 career NHL games.

Evander Kane on the sidelines

For the Oilers, winger Evander Kane will not be in action against the Avalanche.

Injured in the upper body, his state of health will be reassessed day by day.

Kane has 19 points in 24 games this season, his second with the team.

The 31-year-old missed more than a month of action with a wrist laceration suffered Nov. 8 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He returned to action on January 17.

Lindholm back in training

Calgary Flames forward Elias Linholm was back in practice on Sunday after missing yesterday’s game to accompany his wife as she gave birth to their first child.

Defender Michael Stone was absent.

The Flames return to action Monday afternoon against the Philadelphia Flyers.
