Stephen Silas Tears After Kevin Porter Jr.’s Contract Extension

Although only the first year will be guaranteed, Kevin Porter Jr. still signed a nice four-year, $82.5 million contract extension on Monday night. Faced with a talented and young player, but with sometimes unstable behavior, the Rockets have clearly secured their backs in case of problems.

The turbulent former rookie from Cleveland sees this contract as a culmination and, at the same time, as the beginning of a new adventure.

“I always saw that I had potential, but in the last few years it was just potential. Everything is starting to fall into place, it’s great”said Kevin Porter Jr. for the Houston Chronicle. “It means a lot to me, it’s an important moment in my life. My career has been like a roller coaster and this contract will push me to work even harder. »

This extension, even if it includes clauses, was welcomed with joy and emotion by Stephen Silas. Kevin Porter Jr. had been very complimentary towards the Texas franchise lately and when he was reminded of this, the coach took long seconds to speak. “It means a lot”he finally let go, tears in his eyes.

“When you think back to where it comes from, how we got it…”, remembers the coach. “He was in the bubble in the G-League, he had ups and downs, suspensions. We’ve been through a lot together. When you’ve put so much time into something, put in so much effort, had so many conversations, seeing it pay off feels good. He has grown a lot since his arrival here. I’m proud of him. I can’t be prouder than right now. This is just the beginning. »
