Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena wants to participate in the home run contest that will take place on the sidelines of the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, from Friday July 7 to Tuesday July 11.
The event will take place this year on the West Coast, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
According to USA Today analyst Bob Nightengale, the adopted Mexican is just waiting for an invitation to the event.
Since the start of the season, Arozarena has 14 home runs in 78 games (as of Wednesday June 28). In career, his best mark will have been 20 in 141 games, in 2021 and just as much in 2022, but in 153 games.
He could therefore have the best season of his career in terms of long balls in 2023.
Julio Rodriguez will be there
For his part, Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez has already received his invitation, as host.
Besides Randy Arozarena who wants to participate, the versatile Mookie Betts has also indicated that he would like to obtain an invitation for the circuit contest.
The two candidates are not yet in the running to participate in the event, but are in the running for votes.
Voting ends tomorrow.
As for Shohei Ohtani, his participation may depend on his schedule as a pitcher. However, amateurs would be “spoiled” to have Ohtani in the circuit competition in 2023.
