Mariners reportedly in race to sign Andrew Benintendi

The Seattle Mariners’ 2022 year has been a success beyond expectations. After making the playoffs for the first time in more than 20 years, they had a great playoff run, defeating the Jays in the first round and giving the Astros a hard time in the divisional series.

Thanks to this great experience, the Mariners will be thirsty for victories in 2023 and suddenly, they will seek to improve during the offseason. The process has already started well with the acquisition of Teoscar Hernandez.

The latter will patrol the right field, while the young rising star, Julio Rodriguez, will take care of the center. However, there is a question mark in the left.

It therefore makes sense that Seattle is interested in Andrew Benintendi, who is one of the best options available for this position.

In 2022, Benintendi had a two-part season. His excellent first half of the campaign with the Royals, made him one of the favorite targets at the trade deadline. He was traded to the Yankees, where he struggled to get off the ground, before seeing his season cut short by a broken right hand.

Between Kansas City and New York, he maintained a .304 batting average, while excelling defensively. He could prove to be a great acquisition for Seattle, which would love to have a high-quality hitter ahead of Rodriguez in the lineup.

In his first year of full autonomy, Benintendi should get a contract for three or four seasons with a salary that will turn between 15 and 20 million dollars annually.

Although a return to the Bronx is still likely, we must not lose sight of the interest of the Mariners, who would be a very interesting destination for him.
