[Super Bowl LVII] The injured and absent: In full possession of their means

Rare thing after a long season of tough NFL games, the two contenders for the Lombardi trophy are almost complete. Only a few rotation players are missing, but the stars, the real ones, are there. Both teams have been largely spared most of the season despite a tough little spell for the Eagles in December. An important parameter in their success when you know how much injury can undermine the ambitions of even a talented and complete team. When it comes to the game of the year, it will be force against force that the fate of Super Bowl LVII will be played out.

Philadelphia Eagles

Injured but present: Lane Johnson (OT), Cam Jurgens (C) Avonte Maddox (CB)

Absent a few matches in December, Lane Johnson failed the Eagles. A key member of the offensive line and a major player in the running game, the multiple All Pro has found the field for the playoffs and seems to be at its best.

Out: Derek Barnett (DE), Marlon Tuipulotu (DT), Shaun Bradley (LB), Tyree Jackson (TE), Janarius Robinson (DE)

Victim of a cruciate ligament rupture during the season opener, Derek Barnett did not take part in Philly’s excellent season. Still in rehabilitation, the pass rusher can only watch his teammates try to conquer their 2nd title. But his absence didn’t stop his team from recording a record number of sacks during the regular season.

Kansas City Chiefs

Injured but present: L’Jarius Snead (CB)

Barely recovered from concussion protocol Jarius Snead has been restricted to training due to a knee problem. But Kansas City’s No. 1 cornerback should be there on Sunday. In which state ? The staff seem confident. Faced with AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, he will have to be in full possession of his physical means to compete.

Out: Mecole Hardman (WR), Justyn Ross (WR), Tershawn Wharton (DT)

Hardman is despite his 24 years, the receiver with the most seniority in the attack of the Chiefs. But Patrick Mahomes will have to do without it to challenge the Eagles defense. But with the ascending form of Kadarius Toney at the end of the season, ultimately his absence should be largely compensated and not weigh very heavily in Andy Reid’s incredible attack.
