With $100 million at stake, Jaylen Brown can’t imagine missing out on All-NBA Teams

One hundred million dollars. It’s the difference of a selection in an All-NBA Team for Jaylen Brown this season.

As he has never been elected to one of the three All-NBA Teams, the Celtics player is only eligible for a four-year, $190 million extension with his team. On the other hand, if he finally joins an All-NBA Team, he could sign for 290 million dollars over five years!

“I appreciate not worrying too much about what other people think, but in those moments, I don’t really have a choice”he explained recently at the Boston Globe. “Damn, I’m going to campaign for myself.”

It is indeed the journalists who designate the 15 players of the All-NBA Teams and they must therefore be convinced.

“I think I totally deserve it. We are the second best team in the league. I’ve only played winning basketball, I’ve helped lead the team and I’m in the [Top] 10 in terms of scoring (if he is 13th in average, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Devin Booker have not reached the 58 games necessary to be in the classification) while being efficient. I think that looking at the criteria, I largely meet them” he argues as well. “We dominated most of the season. I have been in the field. What more do people want? But hey, it’s not up to me.”

Handicapped by the posts?

Difficult to prove Jaylen Brown wrong, with 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists on average, at 49% success including 34% at 3-pointers. More leader than ever alongside Jayson Tatum, the rear / winger always loses a little too many balls, but it is especially his position of “swingman” which could still play tricks on him.

Because if there will be no more positions in the All-NBA Teams from next season, there are still some this season. Jaylen Brown can thus pay for the fact that voters consider him a “guard” or “a forward” and suffer from the strongest competition on the “backcourt” if he receives more votes as a “guard”.

“I think he’s doing a great job obviously scoring, scoring when we need him, even though we’ve asked him to do a lot defensively.”supports Brad Stevens, the president of the club. “We asked him and Jayson (Tatum) to do a lot of reads against intense defensive coverage, with a lot of assists against them. We are unique because we have these two guys, amazing young players, and they really help our role players. But we also have a group of “role players” who highlight them. I really think they deserve to be part of these All-NBA Teams, especially Jaylen, who has had a great run. »

And so it doesn’t matter if it costs the team millions more dollars in the years to come.
