Carried by their public, the Hornets start with a lot of desire by looking the Sixers in the eye at the start of the match. A motivated Terry Rozier allows his team to take a slight advantage in the score (14-11). Philadelphia will rely on Joel Embiid, once again above the lot, to keep pace with the Hornets. On a 3-point shot in an emergency, Tyrese Maxey beat the buzzer in the first quarter to allow Philly to take the lead (31-29).
The beginning of the second quarter is balanced, and we see two teams return the baskets (42-40). But now, the Sixers will start to really play, tightening the defense and being more applied offensively. On a sublime “pick and roll” with James Harden, Joël Embiid poses a huge dunk to allow Philadelphia to make the break by taking a 10-point lead (55-45). Doc Rivers’ men lead 66-54 at the break.
The Sixers drive the entry point into the 3rd quarter starting with a 9-0 to take a 21-point lead (75-54). Obviously, Charlotte seems to have stayed in the locker room, Steve Clifford’s men will only score 13 points in the quarter. Opposite, Joel Embiid is phenomenal. The Cameroonian already compiles 38 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Philadelphia leads by 25 points at the start of the 4th quarter (92-67).
The last quarter will be a long “garbage time”, and the Sixers win 121-82.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– The carnage of Joel Embiid. Now favorite for the MVP trophy, he knows what he has to do, and does not intend to let this one slip away. Over the month of March, he averaged 36.8 points, 9 rebounds, 2.4 blocks at 62.3% in shooting including 47.6% from 3-pointers! Mind-blowing statistics that he once again confirmed against the Hornets with 38 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks at 16/21 shooting in just 29 minutes of play!
– Philadelphia is ramping up. While this is the last corner as the playoffs approach, the Sixers have understood the message, and have passed the second. With this victory on the floor of Charlotte, they chained a 7th consecutive success. The players are having fun, and each of them seems to have understood their role.
TOPS/FLOPS
✅Tobias Harris. Very good game from him. He finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds at 7/11 shooting including 3/5 from 3-pointers.
✅ ⛔️ James Harden. He made a small triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists but he was extremely clumsy with a 4/15 shooting including 0/6 from 3-pointers.
⛔️ The Hornets’ marksmanship. They were catastrophic in shooting with an awful 5/35 from afar. This season, Charlotte is the worst team in the league at 3-pointers (32.7%) and it has been seen again.
