Mike Rizzo is a potential candidate for the vacancy at the White Sox

As recently as Monday, we learned that the Washington Nationals had granted a two-year contract extension to their manager Davey Martinez and that general manager Mike Rizzo was also about to put his signature on the bottom of a new pact.

But so far, nothing has materialized for the latter, despite his latest rebuild going very well, with the team having already surpassed their win tally from a year ago.

Even Rizzo, who will see his current contract expire at the end of this campaign, is now seen as a potential candidate to take the post of director of baseball operations with the Chicago White Sox, according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network.

Although some in the baseball world believe the White Stockings will draw internally to fill the position, with assistant general manager Chris Getz seen as the frontrunner, some names are surfacing like Rizzo and James Click.

Rizzo joined the Nationals in 2006 as an assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in 2009.

He was the architect of the team that won a first World Series title in 2019, after drafting stars Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon and signing Juan Soto from the Dominican Republic, only to name only these.

The Chicago native began his career as a White Sox scout and his late father, Phil Rizzo, was a legendary scout who worked with the Windy City roster and was highly regarded by owner Jerry Reinsforf.

A decision on who will lead the White Sox’ baseball operations department is expected before the end of the season, according to the team itself.
