Mets evaluate possibility of signing Andrew McCutchen

We don’t really know what awaits Andrew McCutchen for the 2023 season. After a decent campaign in Milwaukee, the outfielder is looking for a job right now.

He is no longer the player he once was. He has become an average hitter and will therefore have an average role in 2023.

The Rays’ name has been around a bit, but right now it’s the New York Mets that’s in the thick of the action.

According to what Jon Heyman reports, the Mets would consider hiring him in order to make him the club’s fourth outfielder – and a second-hand pick hitter.

After all, right now the Mets are currently relying on Starling Marte, Mark Canha and Brandon Nimmo. All three are regulars.

But you and I know that all teams need depth. The Mets also have room as a DH because Daniel Vogelbach won’t play 162 games at Queens.

Having an experienced guy like McCutchen would help the culture of the team. The former MVP has done just about everything in his career, but he doesn’t have a World Series ring.

I’m sure he’d like his chance to fix the situation in New York…should the opportunity arise, of course. And it’s not as if Steve Cohen, who just escaped Carlos Correa, didn’t have the money to offer him a small contract.
