Late last night, negotiations were going well in Major League Baseball for a new contract. That said, there were still files that hung.
From the lot? The international repechage, an important file for the bosses, but also for the players. The former want to obtain it and the latter do not want to give it up.
Yesterday, we learned that Tuesday (so yesterday) was the deadline to save a season of 162 games. Otherwise, another week of games would be cancelled.
And if we rely on the offers yesterday, we feel that the negotiations are going relatively well in certain files.
But a bit like last week, because the negotiations have been going well since yesterday and there is momentum, the deadline has been pushed back to this afternoon.
The MLBPA wanted to buy time to revise its next counteroffer.
There has been progress, but the economic issues and the draft could well and truly derail the negotiations. Expect it to brew today.
The journalists of The Athletic have in particular drawn up an excellent state of the facts this morning.
But right now, it’s really the international repechage that is changing things. South American players don’t want to know, but MLB does.
This could derail plans to sign today.
It’s time to settle the last issues and get organized to save a full season in major league baseball. Fans are fed up and everyone is losing out on the change right now.
We cross our fingers.
