Blue Jays: Alex Cintron interviewed for bench coach position

A few weeks ago, the Blue Jays confirmed the return of John Schneider as full-time manager of the club. It brought a bit of certainty.

But what we realize is that the position of bench coach of the club has still not been filled. Why?

Because as of this writing, Casey Candaele is still serving as bench coach, but only on an interim basis.

The man who had started the season as manager of the Buffalo Bisons (AAA) had been promoted to Toronto when Schneider, who was coach from the bench, took the position of Charlie Montoyo.

How do we know that Candaele will certainly not be the man for the job?

Because the Blue Jays interviewed Alex Cintron, who has been the Houston Astros’ batting coach since 2019.

We imagine that George Springer had his say when interviewing the member of the Astros, he who knew him in Houston.

In the end, Cintron was out of contract and he signed a new deal with the Astros. Presumably it’s because the Jays didn’t give him the job, but maybe he wanted to stay with the world champion organization.

Rumor has it that the Red Sox wanted him too, but nothing is confirmed to that effect.

The Astros, who have a good offense, should therefore find the majority of the staff of 2022. Note that Joe Espada, their bench coach, has been approached for years to become a manager.
