Super Bowl audiences: a cumulative 62.5 million outside the USA

The Super Bowl was watched by 123.4 million people in the United States. At the same time, not even half of that total followed the Chiefs' victory in the rest of the world.

This Wednesday, the NFL released a press release announcing that 62.5 million people watched Super Bowl LVIII around the world.

The figure marks a 10% increase in global audiences for the Super Bowl compared to the game played in February 2023.

Super Bowl audiences insignificant outside the American continent

Of the 62.5 million viewers announced by the NFL, there are 24.1 million in Mexico and 18.8 million in Canada.

If we remove the two immediate neighbors of the United States, that leaves only 19.6 million in the rest of the planet.

In Europe, Germany leads the way with 3.8 million total viewers, and an average of 1.9 million people. This is almost four times the figures achieved by M6 in France. Enough to explain why it is to Germany that the NFL turned to organize regular season matches.

In the UK the total is 3.7 million, with an average of 1.2 million.

As a reminder, in France, the peak audience was 600,000, and the average was 370,000.

Half as many as the Champions League

For comparison, the global audience for the Champions League final is estimated at around 400 million people each year. The Super Bowl audiences therefore do not reach half of this total when combining the American territory and the rest of the world.
