Players of the week 8: Derrick Henry back, first for Christian McAffrey

Running backs and pass rushers in force.

Week 8 brought smiles to the runners and pass rushers for the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week titles.

For the attack, in AFC, the Titan Derrick Henry rolled over the Texans with more than 200 yards and at least 2 touchdowns for the 4th consecutive time in 4 years. In NFC, first for Christian McAffrey. The former Panthers running back had 3 touchdowns (1 passing, 1 running and 1 receiving) in the win over the Rams. This triple perfect in the same game has not been done since LaDainian Tomlinson.

On the defense side, in NFC, Vikings pass rusher Za’Darius Smith has the honors with 3 sacks against the Cardinals. In AFC, it is the surprising Dre’Mont Jones who is crowned for the 2nd time in his career with in particular 1 decisive sack on Trevor Lawrence during the last drive of the Jaguars.

On special teams, Seahawks tigh-end Will Dissly was involved on the 2 fumbles of Giants receiver Richie James. Patriots kicker Nick Folk stood out with 5 field goals scored including 4 from over 40 yards in his team’s victory over the Jets.

NFC Conference:

– Offensive: Christian McAfferey (QB, Giants), 8 receptions, 149 yards (94 rushing, 55 passing), 3 touchdowns.

– Defensive: Za’Darius Smith (LB, Vikings), 7 tackles (including 4 for loss), 3 sacks, 1 deflected pass.

– Special teams: Will Dissly (TE, Seahawks), 2 provoked fumbles (1 forced and 1 covered) on return kick.

AFC Conference:

– Offensive: Derrick Henry (RB, Titans) 219 yards and 2 touchdowns.

– Defensive: Dre’Mont Jones (DE, Broncos), 7 tackles (including 3 for loss) and 1 sack.

– Special teams: Nick Folk (K, Patriots), 4/4 on field goals and 1/1 on extra point.
