Stats 2024: 12 games, 21 tackles, 5 sacks
Estimated position in the draft: Top 20
NFL comparison: Greg Rousseau (Bills)
Superstar at the end of the school, Mykel Williams shines in his first university season. At his hunting board, we find in particular CJ Stroud (Texans) or Anthony Richardson (Colts). National champion, he is considered the rusher pass of the future for the big league.
But, 2 seasons later, the questions succeed certainties. What type of player is it? The former Bulldog is today an enigma which only asks to be resolved after his draft.
Mykel Williams' strengths
- Impact in the second curtain
- Explosive athlete
- Speed/power transition
Mykel Williams's big highlight is the impact that puts during a sack as a rusher pass. When he reaches the quarterback, he does not do things by half. He uses his length very well at the arms to beat his opponent, and with a good speed of execution. Then, in terms of tackle, it is sufficiently solid.
He is also an excellent defender against the race when he puts his own. In any case, rare its those where runners or offensive line men manage to block Georgia's rusher pass. Ideal prototype, he is a very athletic player, and complete against the two types of games with a natural power that only requires being developed.
Mykel Williams weaknesses
- Raw
- Upper body power
- Technique in rush pass at the level of the hands
Very promising in the 1st academic year, it only asked Mykel Williams to confirm. Unfortunately, he did not do it, for several reasons.
First, his panel of movements in Rush Pass is school. Often, his first placement in terms of hands is not precise. Therefore, he does not have the reflex to change plan despite the activity and the violence he releases in this area.
Morphologically, Mykel Williams is the typical profile of the rusher pass. But, for the moment, he can lack strength in the face of more seasoned and powerful tackles. He must therefore spend more time in the bodybuilding room to develop his physical potential, at the risk of not seeing the ground very often.
Possible destinations
Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions
Potential to exploit. This is the assessment that we make of Mykel Williams today. The problem of this type of profile is often left or double (the famous boom or bust?).
The preferential game scheme for him would be a 4-3 defense as a defensive End. In a 3-4, he does not have sufficient power to become an End defensive, and he has a very average technique in rush pass in a 4-3.
The teams mentioned are all looking for a rush pass, but for various reasons. Panthers and Falcons may get their hands on him to make them their future leader in number of sacks. But, it will not be too long to see him hatch his potential at the risk of being disappointed. As for cowboys and lions, Mykel Williams would have a mentor of choice with Micah Parsons or Aidan Hutchinson respectively. Which would undoubtedly be beneficial to him if he wants to last in the big league.
