Colts: Michael Pittman Jr receives the franchise tag

The Colts are placing their franchise tag on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., despite intense negotiations for a big contract.

The announcements keep coming in the NFL! It is now Michael Pittman Jr who receives the franchise tag from the Colts, according to NFL Network. The 26-year-old receiver and his team were nevertheless engaged in intense negotiations, again according to the media. Both sides were hoping to reach a long-term deal before the window for the franchise tag closed.

Unfortunately, the deadline being too close, Indianapolis preferred to extend the negotiation period until mid-July. In the meantime, the receiver is assured of receiving $21.8 million guaranteed in 2024.

Pittman, an investment for Indianapolis

Selected with the 34th pick in the 2020 draft, Pittman is a big investment for the Colts. The franchise had made a trade to be able to select him so high.

During the 2023 season, Pittman played 16 games. He recorded 109 receptions for 1,152 yards and 4 touchdowns.
