Naz Reid: ‘It would be a bit heartbreaking to leave Wolves’

Among the notable absentees at the end of the Wolves season was Naz Reid. Having become one of the best linings in the league among interiors, the 4/5 of Minnesota had broken his hand at the very end of the season on a poor reception, after a fault by Bismack Biyombo. Will we see him again in the Wolves jersey when his rating is at its highest and he will be a free agent?

“I don’t really know what to expect. Everything happens to the right, to the left…. I’m preparing for this moment, because I don’t know what to expect.” explains the young interior to the Star Tribune. “I would really like to stay in Minnesota, that’s for sure. But it’s a business and everything must be done in the interest of both parties. »

Naz Reid wants extension at Wolves

Very close to Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels, two of the young talents of the team, Reid knows he cannot dislodge Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns from the starting lineup. If it is extended, no doubt his coach will find him a bigger role.

“I wouldn’t mind it, and anything that can be done to get me an extension in Minnesota would be great.” he assures. “But I also feel like I’ve already moved into a bigger role or situation than I was at the start of the year. »

Because he only makes $1.9 million a season, Reid will be among the players who will take the biggest somersault of the offseason. In Minnesota and elsewhere among franchises that are not in the red, we can devote a “mid-level exception” to him at around 11 million dollars per season. Maybe he can find better somewhere else, even if it would hurt him to leave his friends.

“It would be a little heartbreaking to leave them but they understand it too” continues Reid. “Obviously we’re trying to make sure we stay together. They try. I spend my time hanging out with them. We are getting closer and closer, so it would be difficult for me to leave them”.

Priority to a starting place?

One thing is certain, if he assures that he is ready to remain 6th or 7th man at Wolves, with equal offers, he will opt for a starting place.

“I attach a lot of importance to it as a person and as a player, because I feel like I have worked up to my potential”, Reid said. “But with my unique situation, it can go both ways: starting or replacing. Whatever situation arises, for sure I would prioritize that.”

As for the leaders, we will do our best to keep him, but it will obviously be complicated to ensure him a starting place…

“We want to be a franchise that rewards players who do things right,” President Tim Connelly announced after the elimination against the Nuggets. “He came here in good shape, improved year after year and we keep our fingers crossed that he will be with us for a long time. We will work hard to find a long-term solution for Naz. »
