We expected a lot from this clash between Philadelphia And Los Angeles, except that the show was unfortunately not there. The suspense only lasted six short minutes since, as soon as the teammates of Joel Embiid (30 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists) and Tyrese Maxey (31 points, 8 assists) placed their run from 9-0 to break away in the first quarter, the “Purple & Gold” did not see them again all evening.
On arrival, this therefore gives a success in the – very – large widths (138-94) and this does not suffer from any dispute, as the Sixers rolled on the Lakers from start to finish. In full 3-point rush (22 successes!), dominant on the rebound (48-32), own ball in hand (7 lost balls) and imperial to punish each opposing fault in defense (22/26 on free throws) or in attack (24 points after turnovers), the Philly players signed their best collective victory of the season.
TO REMEMBER
– A memorable spanking. Seventh consecutive victory for the Sixers against the Lakers (best series all-time tied) and, above all, a success achieved with no less than… 44 points in advance. Quite simply unheard of in the rich history of Philadelphia/Los Angeles (324 matches).
– Another record for LeBron James. He only needed to play nine minutes to overtake Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and, unsurprisingly, the “King” succeeded. Enough to allow him to become the record holder for career minutes, when we combine the regular season (54,665) and the playoffs (11,654): 66,319 on the clock now for the eternal and indestructible “Chosen One”. The only positive point of the Lakers’ evening is how badly it was missed.
TOP/FLOP
✅ Joel Embiid & Tyrese Maxey. A sixth career triple-double for one, a new outing with more than 30 points for the other and, for each, the impression that they could play for hours without being disturbed by the Lakers “defense” , to absent subscribers. The more the days pass, the more complicated it becomes not to consider the Embiid/Maxey duo as the best at the start of the season, as they undermine the Sixers’ opponents every evening with efficiency and, above all, ease.
⛔️ Los Angeles. Nothing good to take away from this trip to Philadelphia for the Lakers, crushed from start to finish and who let go from the moment Anthony Davis, very good to start, was contained. Defensively and offensively, it was just unworthy of a team wishing to play for the title at the end of the season and we must now hope that this correction awakens Darvin Ham’s group, which still cannot manage to string together a lasting series of victories.
