Basketball story(s) | 1990, the NBA arrives in Japan

Since the inception of the NBA, 35 regular season games have been played outside the United States. What we often forget is that it was neither in Mexico, nor in England or France that the league’s international adventure began. The big premiere was on November 2, 1990 in Japan.

In Tokyo, it’s a story of big money, jet lag, mustache… and a Phoenix Suns victory. Karl Malone and John Stockton were the stars of this trip.

This is what Alain Mattei tells you in the fourth episode of Histoire(s) de basketball, the new DNA of Sports podcast. You find an episode every Tuesday and Thursday of the season and the playoffs.

Since the launch, you have already been able to discover or rediscover the first weeks of Tony Parker’s career in San Antonio, the second return of Michael Jordan when America was traumatized by September 11 and LeBron James’ first NBA game.
