Tommy Pham is open to playing first base

A career outfielder, veteran Tommy Pham is considering changing positions to give himself a better chance of attracting the attention of a team that could allow him to showcase his talent in 2022.

Like many others, Pham was taken aback by the outbreak of the lockout, he who has no agreement in anticipation of the next season.

A free agent, he submits the possibility of changing his glove for the large first base mitt and thus seducing a team that would like to give itself an additional option in this position.

Pham will soon be 34 years old and he knows very well that time is not on his side. For him, this change of position is a way to put behind him two seasons well below expectations in uniform for the San Diego Padres.

What Pham is looking for first and foremost is the opportunity to assert himself on offense, regardless of his defensive position, because he knows very well that the introduction of the hitter of choice in the National League will be a game-changer for many teams looking for a quality stick.

This proposal to move to the first base could challenge the Tampa Bay Rays with whom Pham has already evolved. The leaders of the Rays are considering getting a right-handed hitter who could play at this part of the diamond.

Versatile player, remember that Pham began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals as a shortstop player.

The veteran says he is ready to accept a one-year contract in 2022, a question of performing well and then signing a longer contract which could become his last contract in the Majors.

The two rather disappointing seasons spent in San Diego are not the norm for Tommy Pham. In St. Louis and Tampa Bay, the Las Vegas native has been a valuable player.

Don’t be surprised to see Pham bounce back and offer a team that is aiming for top honors a very good offensive and defensive complement.

His best season came in 2017, when he received MVP votes in the Nationals.

His career average is .265.
