The Blue Jays of Toronto and the Astros of Houston both had a big file to settle last winter. We are talking about Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kyle Tucker.
The Blue Jays chose to keep Vlady and take the chance that he would remain. It finally happened.
The astros, they chose to exchange Tucker knowing very well that the main interested party asked too much for what the club wanted to pay. The astros received good young people, but weaken in the short term.
After all, Tucker could be the MVP of the national – if the season lasted three weeks, like – so its figures in Chicago have been impressive since the transaction.
That said, the transaction also had the effect of sending, by force of things, the message that the Houston Astros are not ready to do anything to win in the short term.
And this is an aspect that cooled Nolan Arenado, explaining why he said no to a transaction between the cardinals and the astros involving it. This is what Chandler Rome, of The Athletic, reports.
Arenado recognizes that the astros have a beautiful pool in their hands, but to exchange Tucker (and to let Alex Bregman go, which would be even more Arrived if Arenado had said yes to the transaction) makes the nucleus falls.
He confirms that his refusal to be exchanged was not a categorical no, but the more “we will see” in the air. He respects the fact that the astros have chosen to move forward without him.
He knew the risks of saying no.
Arenado is not unhappy in Saint-Louis, where he does not have an ugly start to the season. If he leaves, it will be for a place where it is certain that victory is a strong possibility and not to “perhaps” win.
