It’s not the big news we expected today from Florida, but hey: Derek Jeter is leaving the Miami Marlins.
He is no longer the CEO or a minority owner of the club, effective immediately.

He claims he had a vision five years ago when he bought part of the club but it hasn’t materialized for the formation.
He says he is proud of the efforts made to get there, but it was obviously too different to continue.
Still, the club is starting to move in the right direction. Did he get kicked out or did he quit?
Wasn’t he, on the contrary, ready to follow the parade financially?
Derek Jeter’s press release literally said “this isn’t what I signed up for.” My guess is that he’d have some thoughts on Bruce Sherman’s statement that the Marlins are committed to investing into the team.

In Miami, he will be remembered as the first CEO to trust a CEO, Kim Ng.
His record hasn’t been the best, but he’s laid the groundwork for a team that has the potential to return to the playoffs soon, having done so in 2020 when there were eight teams per league.
Most importantly, he got Jeffrey Loria out of MLB.
Will the New York Yankees legend be back in the Bronx in any role? Obviously, the question arises. It should circulate en masse in the coming days, and this, in all possible roles.
Derek Jeter quits Marlins just as the Yankees look to fill shortstop.

Otherwise, it’s debatable whether he’ll want to buy another team somewhere else in MLB or, like A-Rod, in the world of sports.
To be continued, then.
