Orlando aims for the 2027 All-Star Game

After a very complicated period following the departure of Dwight Howard in 2012, then, to a lesser degree, the transfers of Evan Fournier and Nikola Vucevic, Orlando seems once again on the upward slope with the arrival of Jamahl Mosley and the constitution of ‘a young nucleus that is being built around Paolo Banchero.

This expected rise to the top, the Florida franchise hopes to combine it with the organization of an essential event for the 2026/27 season, the All-Star Game.

“In partnership with the City of Orlando, we intend to submit a bid for NBA All-Star Weekend 2027”, confirmed the communication manager of the franchise.

The Opportunity to Renovate the Amway Center

The city of Orlando has indeed requested the establishment of a tourist tax to finance this unmissable annual event. This would aim to raise 256 million dollars which would be used in particular to rejuvenate the Amway Center. Built 13 years ago, the enclosure had then allowed the Magic to organize its last All-Star Game, in 2012. Before that, there had been the legendary All-Star Game of 1992 which had then celebrated Magic Johnson.

For the time being, the operation must first be perfectly tied up at the economic level and above all allow it to generate more. During the last All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Adam Silver, the “commissioner” of the NBA, had estimated that the economic impact on the city should be 280 million dollars.

As a reminder, the 2024 All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis. Nothing has yet been decided for 2025 and 2026, even if the cities of Los Angeles and Milwaukee are already working behind the scenes to share the cake.
