Something new in the soap opera Mikey Williams, this high school phenomenon signed by Puma and recruited by the University of Memphis, but arrested last April when he was suspected of having shot at a vehicle sheltering five people who were leaving his home. San Diego County police noted bullet holes in the vehicle, but no one was injured.
Six months later, we learn in any case that the now 19-year-old ringleader, facing six charges, will be tried on October 24, after having already pleaded not guilty by videoconference in April. He faces up to 28 years in prison if convicted on all charges. Suffice it to say that his future in basketball is more uncertain than ever with this firearms affair…
Quickly released on bail ($50,000), Mikey Williams is now taking his university courses online and is still on the team’s squad. Memphiseven though he does not have access to the team’s facilities and nothing will be decided about him until the end of his trial.
FYI, the Tigers’ NCAA season opens on November 6 and they have resumed training since the end of September.
