Future “free agent”, Nikola Vucevic will give priority to Chicago

Close to finding the Bucks in the playoffs, the Bulls finally saw their end of the season change in the last three minutes of their second playoff game lost in Miami.

In moments, the Illinois franchise went from the prospect of competing again in the postseason to returning to uncertainty and questioning to explain an overall disappointing season.

Often criticized, Nikola Vucevic is part of the interrogations of the “front office” since the Montenegrin will be an unprotected free agent this summer and will therefore have the leisure to listen to all the offers coming from other franchises. Even if, for the moment, in the mind of the player, Chicago holds the rope.

“Of course, it’s always tricky to talk about that now. But the Bulls will have priority., did he declare. “I would like to stay here, but it’s up to the front office to decide and work with my agent on the contractual part. I’ll discuss vision and plans, that kind of stuff. That’s about all I can say. I’ll be a free agent, so I’ll see what comes up. I have been here for two and a half years and have enjoyed my time here. I’ve built good relationships with my teammates, the staff, the front office, the people in the franchise and in this city. There were a lot of positives. Now we will see what their plans are and what they will decide.

Coby White and Lonzo Ball cases also on the table

The Illinois franchise could make sure to keep its anchor in position 5 by offering an extension corresponding to the expectations of the pivot. GM Arturas Karnisovas has also affirmed his desire not to blow up his roster to start a new project, even if the results are not there.

“That’s what has been said throughout the season. Blowing it up to rebuild everything is not something you think about,” he indicated. “We changed our minds in the 2021 season to focus on winning and trying to build a sustainable program here. I think that’s what we’re focusing on right now. How we can help this group and how we can improve from this year.”

Despite this desire to keep his hard core, in line with the extension of Zach Lavine’s contract during the last offseason, Arturas Karnisovas still keeps in mind to study all the possibilities.

“My responsibility is to watch everything. At the end of the day, being a team that ends up with 50% wins is not good enough. It’s not enough for our franchise, our fans. They deserve better. So I’m going to look at everything, on how to improve this group. I will be open to anything”added the leader of the Bulls.

Among the other summer projects, there will be the case of Coby White, who is coming to the end of his rookie contract and whom Arturas Karnisovas absolutely wants to extend, but also and above all that of Lonzo Ball, who has just undergone a cartilage graft at the level knee in order to hope to see the floors again…

“I am sure he will come back. As for the calendar, I do not have it at the moment, because he has just undergone his intervention “he simply said.
