Detroit: Kemba Walker pushed out before recovery

Sad journey that of Kemba Walker since his departure from the Hornets in 2019, where he was the “franchise player”. After two seasons in Boston tarnished by his knee problems, and half a season at the Knicks where he was completely removed from the group in mid-February, the point guard finally landed at the Pistons on the evening of the last Draft.

The Detroit franchise made him understand that they weren’t counting on him. He was also not part of training camp and was therefore cut yesterday, on the deadline set by the NBA. It could have happened long before, but Kemba Walker was waiting to find his new franchise to accept the divorce from the Pistons.

This last minute separation probably indicates that the leader has not found a team to offer him a guaranteed place for the coming season, and here he is now a free agent, at 32 years old. He is leaving all the same with a nice check since he will receive the 9.2 million guaranteed for the 2022/23 season.

In any case, we recently saw him at a preseason game between Charlotte and Boston, two of his former teams, speaking about the possibility of returning one day to the Hornets.

By separating from Kemba Walker, the Pistons now respect the limit of 15 guaranteed contracts set.
