Second in the trophy of best sixth man of the year, Immanuel Quickley comes out of a very good regular season with 14.9 points on average. But since the start of the playoffs, the leader/back has been disappointing with only 9 points per game at 34% shooting including 28% from 3-pointers…
A trend that was confirmed during Game 1 against the Heat. The Knicks player scored only 9 points at 3/9 shooting including 1/4 at 3-pointers. However, the player does not lose confidence.
“The ball will eventually go in” reassured Immanuel Quickley. “The ball just didn’t go in. I lived moments like that in the regular season and everyone was asking questions. I never question myself. I work too hard for that”.
Ready to do anything to win
With the absence of Julius Randle, New York needs Immanuel Quickley offensively to relieve Jalen Brunson, especially since the latter is doubtful for Game 2, because of a painful ankle.
While the medical status of the two best Knicks players is still pending a few hours before the meeting, Immanuel Quickley would logically take the place of Jalen Brunson in the starting five in the event of a package. In 21 starts this season, he averages 22.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
“I will do whatever the team needs me to do to win” asserted Immanuel Quickley after practice on Monday. “It’s the playoffs, so what matters is not necessarily what you do, but how you do it and how you can help the team win. That’s why I’m here”.
After dropping Game 1 at home, Game 2 is synonymous with a mandatory victory for Tom Thibodeau’s men, under penalty of going to Florida in a very uncomfortable position.
