A return of Ime Udoka to the Celtics bench seems complicated

Can you regain your place in the NBA after being suspended for a year? For players, it happens, especially in suspensions linked to anti-doping or anti-drug control, but for a coach, sidelined by his own club…

ESPN explains this that if the Celtics did not want to formally dismiss Ime Udoka following the discovery of his extra-marital affair with a member of his staff, a return of the coach to the bench seems very complicated.

Moreover, Boston will not oppose his departure, if another team wants to hire the former assistant of Gregg Popovich, and other franchises are inquiring to understand the exact reasons for the sanction imposed by the Massachusetts club, in order to know if they can envisage Ime Udoka in the future, more or less distant.

Also according to ESPN, the investigation carried out by an independent law firm thus discovered that Ime Udoka had made remarks “coarse” to the wife of his staff, before their adulterous relationship began. Even if the connection was granted, the Celtics thus considered that the attitude of their “head coach” was problematic and contrary to the team’s internal regulations, in particular because there was “a power dynamic associated with a superior’s inappropriate relationship with a staff member”.

In France, the law prohibits companies from meddling in private life internally, and therefore prohibits relations between employees. In the United States, it is different and several former players have confirmed that the franchises formally forbid their members to maintain links within the club. Nick Young, for example, revealed that he had an affair with a Wizards cheerleader, leading to … the dismissal of the latter.

As a reminder, it is Joe Mazzulla, only 34 years old, who will lead the Celtics this season.
