The Texas Rangers have made several good moves in recent seasons. Of those? Successfully lure Jacob deGrom to town.
Yes, it was expensive ($185 million guaranteed over five years) and it took a financial commitment that even set the Mets back, but Arlington has its man.
We all know what made the Mets back down, whose offer would have been around $100 or $110 million: the health of the star pitcher. After all, we know that he is unfortunately subscribed to the infirmary…
But that doesn’t mean he didn’t consider the Mets just the same.
In fact, as he said in an interview with the New York Post, deGrom didn’t automatically see himself outside of New York.
He simply liked the plan Rangers offered him from the start.
He’s keen to say he enjoyed his time in New York, thought he’d return, and isn’t insulted by the Mets’ offer for him. But despite everything, here he is with the Rangers.
Recall that he has already said that he would like to explain himself one day with Buck Showalter for this purpose.
The one whose first sessions on the camp mound have been delayed is currently in great shape. He hopes to be healthy for the first day of the season.
I still believe the Mets won’t regret signing Justin Verlander…but looking at what’s happening in Texas, some Mets fans might still get caught up in picturing him in a New York uniform. York.
- Speaking of Justin Verlander.
- Speaking of the Mets and Rangers.
- It’s Chris Bassitt’s turn to like seeing teams spend.
