It has been about two years since Elly de La Cruz has been in the middle fingers. The one who is in his third season in the show arrived with great fanfare … and above all, he was doing the headlines every day.
Monstrous circuits, goals flights (including marble), spectacular defensive games: he was in sight.
However, this season, we have a little feeling that Cruz is less spectacular that before. We no longer necessarily see it every day in the compilations of protruding facts … and that can suggest that he does not have an incredible season.
Last Wednesday, the subject was notably addressed to the Podcast of MLB passion, and I took the opportunity to give a little my vision of things: in my opinion, Cruz steals a little less the show … But he is probably a better player than he has never been before.
Because in his case, “less spectacular”, it rhymes with “best player”.
What should be noted is that since his arrival in the MLB, we see him making several spectacular games that hold attention … but we saw less all his lethargies and his errors. Because that comes with playing such a spectacular style: sometimes, playing with fire, we end up burning.
When we look at the figures, we realize that Cruz is experiencing a season quite similar to last year. On the other hand, what he lost in spectacular games, he won it elsewhere: he is less often withdrawn on three sockets, for example.
Basically, the ups are less high … But the stockings are less low. And that must make the Reds happy, who bet on a much more constant player.
And despite everything, Cruz remains a player who continues to accumulate big games: his 13 circuits in 2025 place him in the process of beat his personal summit in a season (25), and he still has 20 stolen goals this year.
He may no longer be the flavor of the moment, but he is still a player who is exciting to see playing. And above all, it is a reviewed and improved version of the player that we have seen for two years.
