The NFL announces “Quarterback”, a Netflix docuseries

“Formula 1: Drive to Survive” has made people envious. Since the phenomenal success of the Netflix docu-series on F1, all the major leagues and federations are also looking to attract a new audience through streaming platforms.

On the success side, Sunderland ‘Til I die follows the woes of Sunderland Football Club in the lower divisions of English football, a far cry from its glory days in the Premier League.

More recently, on the other hand, the reception has been colder for Break Point, which follows the course of professional tennis (ATP and WTA).

Which side will fall then Quarterbackthe series announced this Wednesday by the NFL and Netflix, which will be released this summer?

On the concept, the NFL reveals that Quarterback followed three league pitchers throughout the 2022 season: Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota.

The series will show exclusive moments on the field (the three players wearing microphones during all their matches) but also outside, with their loved ones. Victory at the Superbowl for Mahomes, comeback against the Colts for Cousins: the spectator should be spoiled.

Mahomes is also one of the producers of the show (just like Peyton Manning), via his production company 2PM. The latest MVP tries to make fans salivate:

“I’m excited for fans to have exclusive behind-the-scenes access to an unforgettable season for the Chiefs franchise and for my family. From welcoming a new baby into our household mid-season, to hosting the Lombardi Trophy in Kansas City, our cameras were there at every opportunity. This new Netflix show will show the time, preparation and balance it takes to be an NFL quarterback. »

On the NFL side, working behind the scenes of sport is not new, since the NFL Films subsidiary has been in charge of Hard Knocks documentaries which immerse themselves in the daily life of a team during the preseason since 2001. Some teams, such as the Cardinals, were also entitled to an equivalent offered on Amazon: All Or Nothing.

On the Netflix side, American football has had success in the past with the docuseries Last Chance U, which showed the daily life of talented but often too undisciplined university players, and relegated to the lower university divisions (Junior College). More confidential in France, the series QB1: Beyond the lightsshe followed high school quarterbacks, battling to catch the eye of college scouts.

Just like Formula One: Drive to Survive, the release of the series should coincide with the start of the following season.
