Roger Goodell: “We are going to play more games than expected in Germany”

Last November, the Buccaneers and Seahawks faced off in Munich in the first regular season game in NFL history in Germany. The first of what will apparently be a long series.

During his press briefing on Wednesday, Roger Goodell was enthusiastic when asked about the future of the league in Germany. As a reminder, two meetings have already been announced for 2023. The venues for the meetings have not yet been confirmed.

“I think from what we’ve been through over the past season, we’re confident that we’re going to experience that again, with at least one game in Frankfurt,” Goodell explained. “We are confident that we will continue to be here long after the agreement we made a year ago. I think you will see more games than we expected. It gets things done for us. It shows the incredible support we have here. Our teams loved it. The league loved it. Our fans loved it. So you will see more American football in Germany. »

Basically, the NFL had indeed announced only one meeting per year for four years in Germany. But the success has been such that there will already be two for the coming season.

The Chiefs and the Patriots will be the two teams that will “receive” an official match in Germany in 2023. We do not yet know their opponents.

While waiting for France, Germany therefore seems to have needed only one match to win the heart of Roger Goodell.
