Raiders – Texans (38-20): Josh Jacobs rolls over Houston

Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) – Houston Texans (1-4-1): 38-20

American football is a sport that is often played on small details and the Texans had the bitter experience of this Sunday evening.

While they were almost midfield and they had not yet been stopped so far in the game (24-20 at this time of the game), the Texans had a 4 & 1 to play in attack. But the offensive line moves too fast, penalty and the team is no longer able to play it and resolves to punt for the first time in the match at the start of the 4th quarter!

Behind, the Texas defense made the same mistake… While Las Vegas was in the opposing 30 in a 4&1 situation, the defensive line took the trap and made the mistake. An error that gives the locals four new attempts and allows them to enter the redzone. Then, it only takes one attempt for Josh Jacobs (20 races, 143 yards, 3TD) to cover 15 yards and score the winning touchdown.

In two faults on the 4th, the Texans went from an offensive series which continues to be 11 points behind on the scoreboard. Cruel…

On equal terms

After a field goal to start the game (3-0), the Raiders gradually stall in attack by chaining the punts and their defense leaves some largesse to the attack of the Texans.

Indeed, the Texans advance quite easily in attack on their series. After a missed field goal at just 39 yards (under a roof…), the Texans follow up with a nice drive of 13 actions and 6 minutes which sees David Mills (almost perfect on this drive) conclude by finding Chris Moore in the endzone for the touchdown (3-7). Behind, the visitors add a field goal (3-10) on their last series before halftime.

Fortunately for local supporters, Derek Carr’s attack (21/27, 241 yards, 1TD) finally comes back to life at the very end of the first half. By alternating play well and thanks to a few decisive runs from Josh Jacobs, the Raiders got close enough to the endzone to see their quarterback throw the ball deep and find Mack Hollins (2rec, 44 yards, 1TD) in the endzone. for a reception-touchdown (10-10) from 26 yards.

At half-time the two teams leave each other back to back and almost equal in almost all areas: in score (10-10), in first down (10 to 9), in time of possession (16 to 14)…

Josh Jacobs makes the difference

Both teams resume the second half the same way they finished the first. For the Texans it’s with a field goal (10-13), for the Raiders it’s with a touchdown (17-13).

Las Vegas thus regains the advantage thanks to a touchdown from Josh Jacobs on a 4-yard run after winning 39 of his team’s 75 yards on this drive.

Except that the advantage is short-lived, once again the Texans find the fault with a Mills (28/41, 302 yards, 2TD, 1INT) who multiplies the good passes and connects with Philip Dorsett for the 25-yard touchdown (17-20).

The two teams go blow for blow with a third touchdown in a row for the Raiders. It’s Jacobs again at the conclusion to restore the advantage to his team (24-20). The runner will increase the gap in the middle of the last quarter on a new touchdown (31-20) well helped by the penalties against the Texans…

Houston definitely cracks on the next action when Mills sees one of his passes intercepted by Duron Harmon and returned 73 yards for the 38-20 touchdown.

With this victory, taking longer to take shape than the score suggests, the Raiders are reassured a little. If the McDaniels paste is still difficult to perceive in the air, on the ground it works rather well.
