[Preview] Week 13 (Thursday): no gifts between old friends

Patriots and Bills meet in a decisive Thursday Night Football for the rest of this AFC East.

Kick-off Thursday night to Friday at 2:15 a.m.
New England Patriots (6-5) – Buffalo Bills (8-3)

The least we can say is that these two teams know each other well. Very well even. Beyond the fact that they are in the same division, and therefore play each other twice a year, these two teams always fight memorable battles. Not necessarily always tight, however. Like the last confrontation between New England and Buffalo. Last year, these two franchises found themselves in the playoffs. A one-way Wild Card Round. A victory 47-17 for Buffalo, which was completing this transfer of power in the division, which had already begun a few seasons ago.

A busy schedule

No doubt therefore that the Patriots will have a feeling of revenge. After a season without the playoffs, the men were ridiculed when they returned to the knockout stages. And even if we put aside the state of mind, this match is also of particular importance for them if they want to return in the post-season. New England is still positive and still in the running. But this defeat against the Vikings hurt them. The Jets are back in front and if the season ended there, the players of Massachusetts would be blocked at the door of the playoffs.

Victory at home is therefore imperative, especially since the calendar is not going to soften. New England will indeed continue with two trips (@Arizona and @Las Vegas) before finishing with a bang with three title contenders in this conference (vs. Cincinnati, vs. Miami and @Buffalo). Suffice to say that the money-time arrives for Bill Belichick and his men. To perform, they will have to be more consistent. The defense is efficient, but cracking against Minnesota. Conversely, the attack was rather efficient during Thanksgiving, but does not manage to chain the matches at this level. Especially against Buffalo, you have to play a high level match to heckle the Bills.

Trapped in Foxborough

We also imagine that Sean McDermott also could play on the feeling of revenge. Certainly, Buffalo’s last two games against New England (home) ended in victories, but the last trip to Foxborough did not leave a very good memory. In dantesque weather conditions, the Bills were trapped by applied Patriots (14-10). It will therefore be necessary to wash away this affront. A match that they will have to tackle without Von Miller, injured in the knee last week and unavailable for this match.

This victory for Buffalo will be above all necessary to advance in this extremely tough division. Indeed, a success on Boston soil would already make it possible to almost definitively rule out the Patriots and above all to put pressure on the Dolphins in front of (8-3) and Jets behind (7-4). This AFC East is not far from being the best division in the league and when two teams face off in prime time, it’s always a match not to be missed. Not sure, however, that we see a lot of points in this match between two of the best defenses in the league (18.1 points conceded per game by the Bills, 18.4 for the Patriots).
