[Preview] Super Wild Cards Weekend: a sense of deja vu

All the first posters of these playoffs have already been played at least once in the regular season.

As is becoming a habit, this first weekend of the playoffs will be extremely busy. With six matches spread out between Saturday and Monday evening, there will be plenty to do.

Not sure, however, that the favorites are heckled at the sight of opposition. We decipher these encounters here.

Ball opening

Kick-off Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
San Francisco 49ers (2) – Seattle Seahawks (7)

Kick-off in the night from Saturday to Sunday at 2:15 a.m.
Jacksonville Jaguars (4) – Los Angeles Chargers (5)

It is probably the most in-form team of the moment who will kick off this campaign. playoffs 2022. The 49ers indeed remain on 10 consecutive wins to end the season. They receive this Saturday Seattle. A team they have already beaten twice. During these two oppositions, the Californians never really trembled (27-7 in week 2 and 21-13 in week 15). Brock Purdy and the offense stay her on 6 performances over 30 dots during the last 7 games. Difficult in this situation to imagine the Seahawks creating the feat.

Later in the evening, Jacksonville will return to the playoffs. The Jaguars have not reached this stage of the competition since 2017. With their division title, they will have the advantage of hosting this game in Florida. Facing them, the Californians of Los Angeles who will have to cross the whole country. Justin Herbert will also discover the playoffs. In their regular season game, Jacksonville made a big splash by beating the Chargers 38-10. Since then the teams have changed, but the weakness of Los Angeles’ ground defense is still the same. They had collected more than 150 yards in this sector and still have not solved their problems.

Player: Tom Brady

Kick-off in the night from Monday to Tuesday at 02:15
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4) – Dallas Cowboys (5)

Like last year, each time Tom Brady enters the lawn, the question will be whether it will not be the last. The quarterback has not announced his retirement, but inevitably the doubt remains. To be sure not to play his last match, he will have to win. The Buccaneers host Dallas in what looks like the tightest game of the weekend. On the one hand, the Cowboys have been inconsistent this season with flashes and more complicated moments. On the other, Tampa Bay did not prove much during the regular season but has the talent and experience to explode in the playoffs. This meeting could therefore swing in one direction or the other. No wonder the NFL decided to put it on Monday Night Football.

Coach: Brian Daboll

Kick-off Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
Minnesota Vikings (3) – New Yok Giants (5)

Sunday, this meeting between Minnesota and New York will be an opportunity to see two coaches who are living their first season on the bench of their team. If the Vikings already had a workforce cut for the playoffs, Kevin O’Connell was able to give a boost. For Brian Daboll, the performance is even more impressive. The Giants have defied the odds this season. Above all, they do not arrive as victims. Their mentality is not going to change, they believe in their luck. And they are right. In the regular season, they only fell to the Vikings after a field goal of 61 yards at the last second. New York has the weapons to crack this defense of the Vikings. This match promises in any case to be hooked.

Disabling absences

Kick-off Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Buffalo Bills (2) – Miami Dolphins (7)

Kick-off in the night from Sunday to Monday at 02:15
Cincinnati Bengals (3) – Baltimore Ravens (5)

In this weekend of competition, two franchises are in a similar situation: Miami and Baltimore. In addition to having to face teams in great shape outside, these two teams will also have to deal without their holder in the most important position. It’s now official, but Tua Tagovailoa and Lamar Jackson won’t be able to play for Miami and Baltimore. The Dolphins and Ravens will therefore align Tyler Huntley and Skylar Thompson. Facing the Bills and Bengals respectively, that seems far too light to worry about these AFC behemoths. Buffalo and Cincinnati want them to fit perfectly into their competition before tackling high-level matches.
