Player of the Month: Seahawks out in force

The draft is already bearing fruit on the Seattle side.

If the Seahawks’ offseason could leave something to be desired before the start of the season, the month of October came to sweep away the fears. The transfer of Russell Wilson for Denver? A winning bet so far with an amazing Geno Smith as the starting quarterback. Another runner drafted very high? Kenneth Walker has already made forget Rashaad Penny, injured for the whole season. The defense is not to be outdone with a fifth draft pick rewarded in the person of Tariq Woolen. Pete Carroll in the running for Coach of the Year?

On the other hand, the title of offensive player in AFC is one of the most classic. King Henry is well back at the top of the NFL runner hierarchy and carried the Titans’ offense at arm’s length last month.

The nominations of Quinnen Williams (DT, Jets) and Za’Darius Smith (LB, Vikings) as defender of the month in the AFC and NFC, respectively, reward their franchise’s very good start to the season.

NFC Conference

– Offensive: Geno Smith (QB, Seahawks): 102/147 (69.44%) passing for 1,207 yards, 9 touchdowns and a single interception. 143 yards rushing for a touchdown.

– Defensive: Za’Darius Smith (LB, Vikings): 14 tackles including 8 for loss, 6.5 sacks and one pass defended.

– Special teams: Tress Way (P, Commanders): 28 punts at 46.8 yards on average including 16 in the opposing 20 yards.

AFC Conference

– Offensive: Derrick Henry (RB, Titans): 563 yards running for 5 touchdowns (140.8 yards average per game).

– Defensive: Quinnen Williams (DT, Jets): 23 tackles including 4 for loss, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a covered fumble and a defended pass.

– Special teams: Ryan Stonehouse (P, Titans): 20 punts at 51.7 yards on average including 8 in the opposing 20 yards.

Rookies of the month
