After Baker Mayfield and PJ Walker, it’s Sam Darnold’s turn to start with the Panthers. The franchise has officially announced that the former Jets quarterback will be on the field for the start of Sunday’s game against the Broncos.
Picked up by Carolina for draft picks in 2021, Sam Darnold started 11 games for the team in 2021, throwing 9 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, for a record of 4 wins and 7 losses. After spending the start of the 2022 season on the injured list with a preseason ankle injury, Darnold was activated by the Panthers two weeks ago.
While taking advantage of PJ Walker’s injury and poor performance by Baker Mayfield to make his debut this season, Darnold doesn’t appear to be the long-term solution for the Panthers. Barring a huge turnaround, Carolina’s starting quarterback in 2023 should be none of these three.
