Lions – Seahawks (45-48): Offensive fireworks

Detroit Lions (1-3) – Seattle Seahawks (2-2): 45-48

Simply the game with the most points scored this season. 93 units and 1075 yards recorded. An offensive anthology. Seattle has simply scored points on each of its series of the game except one, a missed field goal.

Geno Smith was impeccable, helped by an unstoppable DK Metcalf in the first half and a decisive Rashaad Penny in the second half. Tyler Lockett turned into a clutch possession receiver on cleaver actions. And the team has taken into account the few errors of its opponent of the day.

A valiant adversary, who has always been in tow but never completely unhooked. Orphan of DeAndre Swift and Amon-Ra St Brown, Jared Goff ran out of options but was able to rely on a monumental TJ Hockenson to stay in the race. Finally the match will be played on the two losses of ball caused by the Seahawks.

Seattle has the hand on the meeting

The Seahawks begin the meeting under the best auspices. The offensive game is set up immediately around Geno Smith (23/30, 320 yards, 2 TD / 49 yards, 1 TD on the ground). Breakaways on the ground, short game, intermediate passes and tests of depth, Seattle quickly finds the in-goal through Will Dissly (39 yards, 1 TD) before Smith pierces the race to accentuate the advantage . The other squads then take over: a successful kick, a covered fumble, the sea eagles dominate head and shoulders. To drive the point home, DK Metcalf (149 yards) pierces 55 yards, and Noah Fant (2 yards, 1 TD) quietly crosses the line. All possessions bring points, the Seahawks are serene.

For their part, the Lions cling and play their luck on special teams. They cause a fumble on punt recovery, and pick up the score thanks to TJ Hockenson (179 yards, 2 TD) before converting a fake clearance which positions them for a field goal. Despite everything the attack is on alternating current and the defense does not find the solutions. Errors, penalties, missed transformations, Detroit seems to be under-revving in all compartments of the game. Yet the Lions are not completely off the hook when Josh Reynolds (81 yards, 1 TD) slaloms for 26 yards and places Jamaal Williams (108 yards, 2 TD) for the touchdown. 15-24 at the break.

To you, to me

Back from the locker room, no time to settle in as the Seahawks are already hitting. First action, Tariq Woolen (5 TKL, 1 INT) intercepts Jared Goff (26/39, 378 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT) and raises to the paint. DK Metcalf hits, Rashaad Penny (157 yards, 2 TD) raffutes, Tyler Lockett (91 yards) cuts and Geno Smith unrolls. Seattle keeps the hand. On a 3&16 Penny escapes for 36 yards to score and maintain a comfortable gap, big tomahawk blow on the opponents’ skull. And despite the voluntarism of Detroit, Seattle still manages to keep its lead thanks to its attack of indisputable efficiency.

For its part Detroit suffers but each time succeeds in actions that keep the suspense and the match within reach. Already lacking its number 1 runner and receiver, the Michigan club successively lost Quintez Cephus (15 yards) and Kalif Raymond (41 yards) through injury, and seemed to run out of options. Yet Williams pierces for 51 yards and the touchdown, Hockenson flies for 81 yards, and Josh Reynolds closes the gap. The weak point comes from the defense which plays on the heels and does not manage to extinguish the attack of Washington. Yet the meeting never seems to be folded and Goff finds solutions to keep a breath of hope.

The conclusion of the match is suffocating. With 10 points behind 5 minutes from the deadline Hockenson picks up a score in the corner of the in-goal, the Lions are still alive. Unfortunately for Detroit the defense cracks again at the worst time. On 3&5 Penny finds the opening and escapes for 41 yards to cross the line. The timeouts fly away, and the azur and argent play their last cards to close the 10-point gap. Goff reduces the mark to three units with one minute on the clock by aligning Justin Jackson on a small pass. The special teams are rubbing to cover the onside kick which bounces… No, finally no surprise comeback, it is Seattle which covers the leather to put an end to this breathless match.
