Derek Carr signs with the Saints for 4 years

Derek Carr has found his new team. NFL Media announces that the quarterback has signed up for 4 seasons with the Saints.

New Orleans had been the first team linked to the quarterback’s future as soon as he announced he would no longer play for the Raiders. At the time, he hadn’t even been cut yet, and he had already met with the leaders of the Saints. The contact then remained tied once Carr was free, until this signature.

Carr would have signed for 150 million dollars, of which 60 million guaranteed at the signing! At the end of its first year, another $10 million will become fully guaranteed. The black and gold are well above the salary cap, and they will have to seriously juggle contracts in the days to come.

Already the best quarterback in the NFC South

At 31, Carr will find Dennis Allen, who was the Raiders’ coach during his rookie season. Allen was then fired after just four games.

Last season, the number 4 threw 24 touchdowns for 14 interceptions before being benched in favor of Jarrett Stidham.

This arrival seems to close the Jameis Winston – Andy Dalton – Taysom Hill chapter. New Orleans has juggled all three men with little success since Drew Brees retired. ESPN also specifies that Winston, who had one year left on his contract, should be cut.

Carr also immediately appears as the most experienced pitcher in a very weak NFC South division in the sector. The Panthers are looking for their man, the Buccaneers also after the retirement of Tom Brady, and the Falcons hope that Desmond Ridder represents their future well in this position.

Carr will also have the advantage of having around him players like Chris Olave or Alvin Kamara.
