Xavier Cooks at the Wizards, it’s official

The formalization will not take long. As expected, at the end of the Australian championship, xavier cooks signed up with the Wizards. In Game 5 of the final between the Sydney Kings and the New Zealand Breakers of Rayan Rupert, he contributed to his team’s second consecutive coronation by compiling 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The deal is for a four-year deal for $6.1 million. Xavier Cooks should soon be released to Wes Unseld Jr. to finish the season as the entire 2023/24 season is guaranteed at 1.7 million. The 2024/25 season is not guaranteed, the next one will be optional, activated by Washington.

It will therefore be up to him to prove himself as he arrives with few references outside the Australian championship. This season, he has shot 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

“My versatility is what will help, and also my engine”, he recently explained. “I think if you play hard that’s key, so my ability to rebound, push the ball in transition, especially the way the NBA is. It’s such a fast game and I think my game will translate to it pretty well. The players there are much closer to me than here, in Australia, on an athletic level. I will definitely strive to gain weight, they have great strength and conditioning coaches, great individual trainers and everything to get better so I can’t wait to get to work “.
