No time to blow in this World Cup 2023 because, only two days after the end of the first round, the second round started this Friday. At the end of a day full of twists and turns, we also know no less than… four qualified for the quarter-finals!
First qualified, and not least: TeamUSA. Victorious in the pain of Montenegro, the Americans thus continue their faultless in this World Cup, like the Lithuania who, too, is undefeated after four games. In this same pool J, the Baltic selection easily defeated Greece to give themselves the right to play for first place in the group against the United States, this Sunday.
Other countries qualified for the knockout stage, both present in Pool K:Germany and the Slovenia. On the one hand, the teammates of Dennis Schröder – still deprived of Franz Wagner – quietly took the measure of Georgia in the morning. On the other, Luka Doncic’s teammates scored a convincing success against Australia, one of the tournament outsiders, also offering themselves a group “final” in two days.
As you will have understood, four nations are now out of the race: Montenegro, Greece, Georgia and finally (especially) Australia. All that remains is to know the classification of these pools J and K, and in particular the position of Germany and Slovenia because, assuming that Team USA dominates Lithuania, the loser of this meeting will then find himself in the part of table of Americans…
Canada or Spain will fall by the wayside!
However, what will particularly interest us this Sunday is the outcome of groups I and L where the… four teams (!) all have 7 points! It must be said that the more or less unexpected victories of Italy against Serbia and Puerto Rico against the Dominican Republic in Pool I, as well as those of Latvia against Spain and Brazil against Canada in hen L, have reshuffled all the cards!
For the time being, it is in any case Serbia and the Dominican Republic, as well as Canada and Spain, which have risen to the first two places in their respective groups. Except that the ranking will inevitably change, because Sunday will pit Serbia against the Dominican Republic and Canada against Spain!
A godsend for the winners of Italy / Puerto Rico and Brazil / Latvia, who will climb no matter what in the Top 8 of this World Cup. But at what position? This is indeed the whole issue of the matches the day after tomorrow, at the heart of a day that we can already consider crazy…
