Without Joel Embiid, the Sixers create the feat against the Grizzlies | NBA

We did not give much of the skin of the Sixers, even at home, since the players of Doc Rivers received the Grizzlies without Joel Embiid. Left to rest after an exceptional month of January, the Cameroonian pivot must have enjoyed the show since his teammates won 122-119 after extra time!

Author of 37 points, Ja Morant thought he had done the hardest part by getting the “And-1” eight seconds from the end of the fourth quarter. Thanks to his floater, he equalizes (111-111) but misses the throw behind! The match point is for Seth Curry, who also fails with a complicated zero-degree fadeaway. Extension !

This time, the slalomer Morant validated his “And-1” to give orders to the Grizzlies (115-113), and his sidekick, Desmond Bane, even offered a four-point lead less than three minutes from the end. Jaren Jackson Jr also comes out of his box to cover Tyrese Maxey, and yet the Grizzlies will crack.

It was Danny Green who blew up the room on a 3-pointer, then it was Tyrese Maxey who scored the winning basket on a change of pace fatal to the inattentive Grizzlies defense (120-119). Philly’s defense is perfect on Ja Morant, and it’s finally Ziaire Williams who gets the last shot. He misses, and it’s still Tyrese Maxey who goes to score at the buzzer in front of an audience in heaven.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Morant-Embiid, a failed duel again. It may come as a surprise but in three years, Joel Embiid and Ja Morant have only played against each other once. This season, the pivot had already missed the meeting in Memphis, and the Sixers had taken a big spanking. This time he was resting, but his teammates got the job done.

– Andre Drummond is more than an understudy. 16 points, 23 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks. Even if he was sometimes naive in defense on the penetrations of Ja Morant, Andre Drummond delivers his best game of the season. A big activity and he never refused the fight against Steven Adams.

– The defense of Matisse Thybulle. Ja Morant plants 37 points, but he loses… nine balloons! The fault of a great Thybulle, especially in the extension where he managed to limit it as much as possible. At the end of the 4th quarter and overtime, Ja Morant dribbled a lot and looked for an individual feat. Thybulle’s fault.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅ Tyrese Maxey. While Ben Simmons languishes at home, Tyrese Maxey asserts himself as an indisputable holder. There is not much to blame him for tonight because he knew how to attack the defense when it was necessary, and involve the others when it was necessary. He stood up to Ja Morant, and he even won on points with his 33 points, 8 assists and… 4 blocks!

✅Tobias Harris. Doc Rivers knows he can always count on him, and that’s nice. In a “silent assassin” style, Tobias Harris hurt Memphis badly, and he gained confidence in the first quarter by dominating Jaren Jackson Jr. He even countered him twice.

✅ Desmond Bane. What a terrific striker! He air-conditioned the room in the extension, and in his attitude and his gestures, he sometimes reminds Klay Thompson. He’s a pure shooter, who never doubts, and he’s not afraid to go up against the big guys in the racket.

✅ ⛔ Ja Morant. Very good with his 37 points and his floaters which hurt a lot. But also less good like this missed free throw and his nine lost balls. When Philly went into the zone, he feasted, and Doc Rivers quickly changed tack.
