Without identity and without intensity, the Clippers flounder

Even with an on-and-off Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers have the knack to be among the best teams in the league this season, and squarely aiming for the title. In any case, this is what the extremely dense workforce suggests. Except that’s not really what Tyronn Lue’s troupe is showing at the moment…

“Currently, we are only showing off” plague also Marcus Morris after the fourth consecutive defeat of his team. “Thinking that we can win simply thanks to the talent of the workforce. This is not the case. »

The winger makes an obvious observation: Los Angeles is overwhelmed by the intensity of its opponents.

“We haven’t really built our identity yet, and to win the title…because it’s the title or nothing, we can’t be dominated like that. It has nothing to do with talent. We are dominated (right now). They play harder than us” he continues like this.

Paul George needs to wake up

Paul George symbolizes the Clippers’ current problems. Too often, the All-Star fullback/winger lacks aggression, settling for shooting from mid-range or 3-pointers instead of attacking the circle. A strategy that made him finish the last game with a sad 5/19 in shooting, and more stray bullets (4) than assists (3).

“We just have to increase the intensity”, he assures. “It’s about identity, who we are going to be, and we have to increase the intensity on both sides of the pitch. It starts with me. I was bad tonight, I was bad the last two games. I’m going to pull myself together… I have to improve, I have to do better. »

Because apart from his 40 points against the Kings, Paul George is suffering at the start of the season, like his team, with only 13.7 points on average at 17/54 in shooting over his other four games.

“We need to be more focused and more engaged in what we do”laughs Tyronn Lue. “It’s not just about the players, myself included. If we can’t do the things we’re supposed to do, then we have to do something different. So it’s my fault. But we all have to be better, looking in the mirror and not out the window. We just can’t score hoops. Be 27th in the league in attack (29th in terms of efficiency after this game, 30th in terms of points scored per game), it’s terrible with all the talent we have. »

Except it has to be used well, with leaders showing the way and putting everyone in the right direction.
