With a huge Anthony Davis, the Lakers revive (finally) against the Nets

On a series of five defeats in a row before this meeting, the Lakers had reason to tremble at the time of facing the netcertainly in back to back but particularly in good shape since the famous suspension of Kyrie Irving (four wins in five games). Especially in the absence of LeBron James, who is still recovering from his groin injury.

Yet the “Purple & Gold” undoubtedly delivered their best performance of the season to overcome, with the manner, the teammates of Kevin Durant (31 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists). All without ever running after the score!

An authoritative and convincing success, marked with the seal ofAnthony Davis, absolutely monstrous in the paint to carry the entire Californian collective: 37 points and 18 rebounds! Now all that’s left is to capitalize on that…

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

Anthony Davis, king of painting. Author of his best game of the season, “AD” simply slaughtered the Nets racket today, without ever decreasing in intensity or being forgotten by his teammates over the course of the game (and it should be emphasized). Dominant in the rebound, for example snatching a multitude of second chances (10 offensive rebounds!), As a bonus, he allowed himself to attack his defenders constantly and cleanly (15/25 on shots, 7/7 on throws), unable to prevent him from receiving the ball or from finding his preferred positions in attack, especially near the circle. Monstrous, and to be reiterated.

Still no LeBron/Durant… Four years. It has been almost four years, since December 2018, that there has not been a duel between LeBron James and Kevin Durant, due to the injuries of one then the other. Still embarrassed in the adductors, the “King” thus had to skip this meeting against “KD” and the Nets, but he especially had to appreciate the face displayed by his people in his absence. From now on, he will be able to take advantage of the fact that the Lakers will not play again before Friday to rest and, why not, find the floors.

TOPS/FLOPS

Kevin Durant. Fourteenth consecutive game at 25 points and more to start the season, and that’s about all we need to remember from the performance of “KD”. This will still have been the only Nets player to shine in this part, but it was however necessary to wait for the second period to finally see him to his advantage. Instigating this 16-3 at the end of the third quarter, which brought Brooklyn down to -3 with twelve minutes remaining, after Russell Westbrook tickled and challenged him. An isolated blow of heat, because the New York franchise then collapsed in the last act…

Lonnie Walker IV and Austin Reaves. As against the Kings on Friday night, the pair Walker IV (25 points) – Reaves (15 points) offered some great things, alongside Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Aggressive and confident, beyond their defensive involvement, the two Lakers backs punished the Nets defense as soon as it gave them the opportunity to do so. Without LeBron James, Darvin Ham empowers them more and they respond for the present moment. As when it was necessary to raise the tone to achieve a success run of 13-0 and finish Brooklyn, in the fourth quarter.

✅⛔ Russell Westbrook. As often, the Lakers point guard (14 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists) alternated good and bad off the bench. The good, when he brought a welcome spark to his team, with his energy and aggressiveness (5/6 in throws) or his many offerings for his teammates. The worst, when he wasted a lot of ammunition on the shot (4/15, including 1/6 at 3-pts) or with the ball (4 bullet losses). The good news for the California franchise is that the good took over the bad tonight.

brooklyn. Besides Kevin Durant, who still needed a half to get going, the other Nets players were more or less disappointed tonight. In back to back, they have not shown the same face as the one they have shown for five games and this on each side of the floor. Taken by the throat from the start, Jacque Vaughn’s men chased after the score throughout the evening, without ever really managing to compete sustainably with the Lakers. After all, maybe the fact that they spent their Saturday night in Los Angeles had some repercussions for their failed start…

Patrick Beverly and Kendrick Nunn. The matches follow one another and look alike for the Beverley/Nunn duo, unable to bring effectively and regularly – if not to say simply – in attack. Between them, they have thus accumulated… 2 points in 36 minutes, 1/9 on shots (including 0/7 at 3-pts). A horrible new release from the combo guards of the Lakers, and in particular of Nunn, because Beverley at least had the merit of giving herself in defense, against Kevin Durant…
