Tobias Harris saves the Sixers against the Raptors

The Raptors came close to ending their losing streak. It was finally Philadelphia who won their fifth straight victory while Toronto is now down to six straight losses.

Once again, Nick Nurse’s men have reason to regret. After a rather timid first half, during which the Sixers dominated their subject (57-46), the Raptors found the resources to get back in the game despite the fatigue due to the defeat the day before against Golden State .

First there was an 8-0 with a 2+1 from Pascal Siakam and a 3-pointer from Fred VanVleet to bring Toronto closer (72-67). Then it was an 11-0 that revived the Raptors’ hopes to end the period, with again two 3-point missiles from an inspired Pascal Siakam to put the two teams back on par with twelve minutes remaining (78- 78).

That’s when the Canadians missed their chance because without Embiid, rested on the bench, Philly began to thwart in attack, while Toronto was euphoric, like the baskets behind the arc of Chris Boucher and Juancho Hernangomez to relegate the locals to -7 (79-86). It was finally three minutes from the end that the Sixers found the wire, thanks to two 3-point missiles from the corner of Tobias Harris and De’Anthony Melton (95-96).

Two shots from Embiid and a lay-up in transition from James Harden ended up putting Philadelphia back in the lead (99-96), but that was without counting on Pascal Siakam and his “Victor-style” lay-up, after being started from the 3-point line, to finally send everyone into overtime (99-99).

After five extra minutes under high tension, it was finally Tobias Harris who saved his team from a 3-point shot in the corner (104-101). The winger put a second in stride, finally disallowed for an offensive foul by PJ Tucker, but Philly stayed the course until the end to win 104-101 after a final failed attempt by Pascal Siakam.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

The Catalyst Animation of the Sixers. Being a Sixers fan doesn’t have to be easy every day! How can we go from a good mastery in the first half to such nothingness in terms of animation and execution in attack? Between the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth (that is, during Joel Embiid’s rest time), Philly simply seemed amorphous, without ideas, multiplying sterile possessions and bad choices. Even then, it took three 3-point miracles from the corner and a solid defense to generate some quick play for the hosts to get away with, but it was laborious!

A green-yellow-red duel. The meetings between Philadelphia and Toronto put Cameroonian basketball in the spotlight with Joel Embiid on one side and Pascal Siakam on the other. The two protagonists were the two men of the meeting, with a dominating and important Joel Embiid in his role of deterrent in defense at the end. Pascal Siakam meanwhile was exceptional 38 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists, his best performance of the season.

TOPS/FLOPS

Tobias Harris. If James Harden and Joel Embiid remain Philly’s two main offensive weapons in the absence of Tyrese Maxey, Doc Rivers must have efficient “role players” at their side to ensure and maintain a certain balance. The 5/7 from 3-pointers and the 21 points from “Tobi” were therefore invaluable in this match to allow the Sixers to win.

Pascal Siakam. The captain of the Raptors was in all the right moves, he only missed his last 3-point shot in overtime which was not far from finding the target. We will remember in particular his 16 points scored in the third quarter and this final where he almost carried his team on his shoulders alone.

⛔️ Fred VanVleet. The leader fell back into his ways, finishing with a small 3/15 in shooting including 2/11 from 3-pointers. That must be infuriating when your team loses so little, like recently against the Nets and the Kings, matches where he had scored 39 points each time…

⛔️ De’Anthony Melton. The shadow of himself on this match with in particular 8 points scored in 14 shots attempted. He saves his match by scoring the 3-point which brings his team to -1 in the “money-time”, but rather disappointing overall.
