Anthony Edwards and an ambitious player. For him, and for his team that he intends to “guide” alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell and Rudy Gobert.
It is thus almost naturally that he assumed his responsibilities by scoring 29 points against the Grizzlies to allow Minnesota to clinch its first victory since the injury of KAT. Problem, the rear fell a little in his ways during the next match lost against Oklahoma City.
The sense of responsibilities
His line of stats at first sight is rather honorable (26 points, 4 assists, 6 steals), except that he finished with a fourth quarter with a zero point in scoring and a minimal impact. In general, Minnesota has lacked consistency since the start of the season. To correct the situation, Anthony Edwards did not fail to put his responsibility forward, designating himself as one of the solutions to the problem.
“I just have to come in to give us energy, being the same player every night. My teammates always play the same way every night, so it’s up to me to do the same. I just have to be the same dominant player every night, and then we’re going to string the wins.” he assured.
The player also made amends, particularly in relation to his behavior towards the refereeing body, which notably earned him a technique in the last act against OKC.
“It’s not fouls, I just have to come back in defense, basically. If they don’t whistle, it’s not a fault. I have to come back”, he added. “It’s a difficult state of mind for me. But it’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport. My team needs me back in defense so that’s what I’m going to do now.”
Don’t talk to him about age!
Anthony Edwards believes it is time for him to be a “100%” leader, especially with Karl-Anthony Edwards’ withdrawal, even though he is only 21 years old.
“At the end of the day, everywhere I’ve been, I’ve always been that kind of guy, so I don’t approach it as a question of age”he continued. “In fact, I even feel like an 11-year veteran in the NBA. No I’m kidding, but I don’t feel particularly young. I’ve been here for three years, but I arrived at 18, almost 19. So I feel it’s time for me to move up a gear, that’s for sure”.
After Indiana tonight, the Wolves will begin a five-game “road-trip” and will need the leadership of their “Ant-Man” not to sink in the standings, while they are currently out of the Top 10 at the ‘West.
